Welcome to Nara SGG Club !
A volunteer group to assist international visitors to Nara
History
On March 13, 1983, some thirty people gathered in a public hall in Nara City to start a local volunteer guide group for English-speaking visitors. This was in accordance with an appeal to do so by the ministerial bureau in charge of tourism (current Japan National Tourism Organization, JNTO). Since then, we have been nurtured through the efforts of all members and ceaseless aid from both the central and the regional governments and grew to our present quality and size.
Mission
Our first priority is to provide non-Japanese visitors with substantial assistance at the information counters in Nara. And we do much more. Accompanying people as volunteer guides and as interpreters, translating Japanese articles into English so that foreign residents can live healthier and more comfortable lives in Nara City, and giving concise explanations to foreign visitors at fixed touristic spots to promote Nara tourism are some examples of our outward activities.
Our mindset can be best explained with three D words: Determination, Diligence, and Decency. A fourth can be found in the question, “How should we further develop? With this question always in mind, our each and every member will continue to strive for a better mutual understanding with people from all corners of the world.
